Mary M. Armstrong Dies Following Extended Illness
Mary M. Armstrong, 80, of 43 Spencer, resident of Helena since 1917, died at St. Peter's hospital this morning following a long illness. She had been hospitalized since Feb. 8.Born March 20, 1872, in Monona, Iowa, she came to Helena in 1917 from Grand Lodge, Mich., and had made her home here since that time. She was a member of the Salvation Army for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Ed; four children, Mrs. Aaron Welch of Oilmont, Mrs. Raymond Gray of Ronan, James Armstrong of Mill City, Ore., and Howard Armstrong, stationed with the navy in Seattle; 10 grandchildren, Wilford and Frank Welch of Oilmont, Mrs. Charlotte Torstenson of Shelby, James Raymond Gray with the navy in San Diego, Sue Ann and Sylvia Jean Gray, Mrs. Shirley Gray Torgenson, all of Missoula, and Darlene and Sharon Armstrong of Mill City, Ore; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Dyke of Postville, Iowa, and sister, Jennie Jacklin of Los Angeles.
Lt. Glen Gilden of the Salvation Army will officiate at funeral services at the Retz chapel at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be in Forestvale. Retz funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
