Jimmey L. Slaughter
MCGREGOR, Iowa - Jimmey Lester Slaughter, 83, of Elgin, formally of MGregor, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, following a long illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, McGregor, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, with military honors.
Mr. Slaughter worked as a carpenter for many years in all aspects of construction.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1922, at LaFarge, Wis., son of Jesse and Geneva (Moore) Slaughter. He grew up and spent most of his life in McGregor.
He married Betty Hager on June 18, 1946, in Frankville.
He served in the Army during World War II, where he saw action in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal.
He made model trains from wood, liked to fish, hunt and bowl. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Surviving are five children, Janet (Ken) Matthew, of Bridgeport, Wis., Jesse (Jean) Slaughter, of Muskegon, Mich., Evelyn (Myron) Brye, of St. James, Minn., Raymond (Susan) Slaughter, of Rhinelander, Wis., and Tammy (Shawn) Rose, of Waterville, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bud (Shelby) Slaughter and Daniel (Beverly) Slaughter, both of McGregor, and Scotti "Butch" Slaughter, of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Emmajean (Sly) Blank, of West Des Moines; and a long time friend, Violet Anderson, of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, in 1993; two brothers, Claire and Bill; two sisters, Lullabell and Bernice "Tudy"; two daughters, Marietta and Brenda; and a granddaughter, Marylou.
