Pioneer of County Succumbs at Rulo
Rudolph Schroeder, 83, a pioneer resident of Richardson county, died at 6:15 o'clock Saturday evening at his home at Rulo. Death was caused by heart trouble and complications.
Mr. Schroeder had been ailing for 20 months.He was born Mar 6, 1857, at Guttenberg, Ia., and when he was six years old, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Frederick Schroeder, settled in this county. Mr. Schroder had been a county resident since.
May 31, 1881, he was married at Rulo to Miss Ellen Frederick. She died a number of years ago.
In early life, Mr. Schroeder was engaged in farming. Later [he] was employed by the Burlington railroad and prior to retiring was a carpenter. He is survived by a son, Albert E. Schroeder, Sultan, Washington, five daughters, Mrs. Albert Volz and Mrs. Joe Forney, both of Falls City; Mrs. Henry Romine and Mrs. Herbert Burke, both of Rulo, and Mrs. Raymond Mann, Emmett, Ida.; a sister, Mrs. Louise Gatz, Milwaukee, Wis., 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body is at Chaneys' funeral home. Services will be 10 a. m. Wednesday at the funeral home in charge of Father Ralph Egan, Rulo. Burial will be at Rulo.

This obituary came from, "A Pioneer Couple: The Story of L. D. William and Louisa Gatz", a family tree booklet compiled by Elizabeth L. Gatz, May 1992. Elizabeth added, "He was nine when the family came in 1866. He is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Rulo. His son was Arthur, not Albert. Ellen died about 1904 of flu. Two daughters, of about 18 mo. and 1 yr., also died of flu. Their graves are next to Ellen's with cedars planted by Rudolph as their only markers."
