Wednesday, June 26, will mark the 50th milestone of life together for Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Meyer, residing near Castalia. They are still living on the farm in Bloomfield township where they came to make their home fifty years ago, and which they have owned and operated ever since. Both Mr. and Mrs. Meyer are in good health and take an active part in the work and management of the farm, in cooperation with their married son, Valder.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were both born near Garnavillo in 1862 and 1871, respectively. They were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Senholz, on June 26, 1890, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Gass of the Postville Lutheran church in the presence of the immediate family. They moved to their present home in the fall of the same year.
The four children, all living, are Mrs. Will Timmerman of Castalia, Lester G. of West Union, Ruby Peckham of near Castalia, and Valder C. on the home farm. All plan to be present with their families for the observance of the day. There are six grandchildren.
The anniversary will be celebrated on the farm, one mile northeast of Castalia, by a dinner at 1:00 p.m. Relatives expected for the dinner are Mrs. Minnie Garms, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Salzgeber, Mr. and Mrs. George Senholz, Mr. and Mrs. Will Thoma, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Senholz, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Meyer, Mrs. Mary Meisner, Mr. and Mrs. A.C Meyer and the four children with their families. There will be an open house for other relatives and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 o'clock p.m. Plans for the celebration are being made by the children.
