From a column in the Telegraph Herald newspaper, August 8, 1944, Page 8,

McGREGOR

McGregor, Ia. ---- Special: Mr. and Mrs. ARTHUR DURR have received word that their cousin, Sgt. HENRY HANSON, of Elgin, Ill., was killed in action in France on July 22. Ensign ROBERT E. COON, former McGregor attorney, has completed a 12 weeks' course at the Naval Radar School at the St. Simon, Georgia Air S????on and is here on ten days furlough. WALTER MEHSLING, has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mehsling, that he met Lt. ELLEN CHURCH, formerly of Cresco, and cousin of Mrs. John KRAMER, and Mrs. Frank SLOANE, of McGregor, in England. LOUIS GOLTG, Jr., is now stationed in New Guinea.

MARQUETTE

Marquette, Ia. --- Special: Mr. and Mrs. Frank SCARFF have received word that their two sons, Pfc. GERALD SCARFF and Pvt. RAYMOND SCARFF, are in France. Mrs. John CLARK is in receipt of a clipping from the London Times announcing the engagement of her grandson, ORVILLE A. KNAPP, "to IRIS GEORGINA, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. SCOTT, Station Road, Burston." Mrs. Emily CONKLIN SLACK, Dubuque, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen CONKLIN of Marquette, has enlisted in the WACs.
