Civil War Mother's Pension File of Elizabeth Sparks

" State of Minnesota
County of Olmsted

In the matter of the claim for pension of Mrs Nancy Sparks Mother of Henry Sparks deceased late private Soldier of Company C 3rd Regiment Iowa Vols. Infantry.
Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for aforesaid County and State John Collins and Ellenor Burgan citizens of the county of Olmsted State of Minnesota reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid claim, that on the 6th day of March 1852 James Sparks the husband of Mrs. Nancy Sparks the above named claimant died at Giard Clayton Co., Iowa and that I was present and helped prepare the corps for burial. That said Mrs. Nancy Sparks is still a widow and that she has no property either personal or real and now is only supported through the charity of friends. She being almost incapable of manuel labor. And further despondent says that he removed from Clayton Co. in 1854 to this place and that in 1868 the above named claimant came to this place since which time until the present he the said despondent has been and is still acquainted with the circumstances of said claimant.

Eleanor Burgan desposath and says that she saw the corps of said James Sparks and was at the funeral of said deceased which was in March 1852 at the aforesaid place in Iowa.

I further declare that I have no interest in said claim and is not concerned in its prosecution.

I John Collins state that my P.O. Address is Pleasant Grove, Minn. and I, O.H. Page state that my P.O. Address is Pleasant Grove, Minn.

Sworn to and Subscribed before me this day by the above named affiants; and I certify that I read said affidavit to said affiants, and acquainted them with its content before they executed the same. I further certify that I am in nowise interested in said claim, nor am I concerned in its prosecution.
