Miss Jean Ellenor Johansen, of Lamont, and Garie W. Duncan of Strawberry Point exchanged marriage vows on Saturday evening, Sept. 14. The Rev. D. W. Hoferer of Dundee officiated in the Emanuel Lutheran church in Strawberry Point. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ellen Johansen of Lamont and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Duncan of Strawberry Point. Karen Johansen, sister of the bride, was a bridesmaid, and Alan Duncan served his brother as best man. Ushers were Tom Johansen and Garry Johansen of Waverly, brothers of the bride. Dennis Duncan, brother of the groom, was candlelighter.
A reception for 250 guests was held in the church parlors. Mrs. Wm. Barghahn of Waterloo and Mrs. Lawrence Reinhardt of Postville were at the punchbowl, and Mrs. Harvey Christofferson of Postville cut and served the three-tiered wedding cake. Mrs. Albert Duncan Jr. presided at the guest book. All are aunts of the bride or groom.
The bride is a graduate of Lamont high school and Gale Institute of Business in Minneapolis, and has been employed in the general offices of the Burlington railroad in Chicago. The groom is a 1954 graduate of the Strawberry Point high school and served for three years in the U.S. Navy, having been stationed in Japan for the past seven months. He will enroll at the university as a freshman.
