Wednesday, Sept. 01, in the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, Miss Opal Thyer, youngest daughter of Mrs. Minnie Thyer of Volga, became the bride of Donald Leo Colvin, oldest son of Mrs. Getrude Colvin, Elkader. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her youngest brother, Ernest Thyer. She was attended by Miss Marie Katschkowsky as maid of honor, and the Misses Beverly Larson, Elgin, and Wilma Alderson as bridesmaids. Bill Colvin served his brother as best man, and Walter Saur and Leslie Klink were the other two attendants. Richard Eckheart and Gordon Hansmeier of Waukon served as ushers.

After the ceremony a reception was held for 75 guests in the lower auditorium of the church, at which the table was presided by the bride's two sisters Mrs. D. W. Woods, Maynard, and Mrs. Keith Jennings, Wadena. Assisting at the reception were Mary Jo Colvin and Marilyn Hansmeier of Waterloo, sister and cousin of the groom.

The bride is a graduate of Elkader high school, following which she was employed for two years with the Clayton County Register, and for the past two years she has been with the Northwestern Bell Telephone company. Her husband is also a graduate of Elkader high school and is a veteran of 2 1/2 years service in World War II. Since his honorable discharge he has been operating Colvin service station.

On their return from a short wedding trip they will be at home in the upstairs apartment in the home of the groom's mother.

Clayton County Register, 02 Sept. 1948.
