Stence - Humphrey marriage - 1944

A very Pretty wedding took place at St. Joseph's church in Elkader on Monday when Miss Virginia Ann Humphrey R.N., youngest daughter of Mrs. Calista Humphrey of Elkader, became the bride of Master Sergeant Vincent Joseph Stence, son of Mrs. Ella Stence of Elkader. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiated. James Stence, brother of the groom, and Pvt. John Miller of Camp Bowie, Texas, served as alter boys. Mrs. Arthur J. Johnson, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, and John Stence, brother of the groom, was best man.

Mrs. Stence is a graduate of St. Joseph's school in Elkader, had two years at Elkader junior college and one year at the University of Iowa, following which she entered the University Hospital at Iowa City, graduating in 1942, since which she has been employed in the Passavant Hospital in Chicago. M/Sgt. Stence is a graduate of St. Joseph's school in Elkader. He enlisted and entered the service in 1941. He received his basic training at Camp Lee, Virginia, following which he was sent to Iceland where he has spent the past 34 months.
