Shales - Mathews marriage - 1923

The great mid-winter event and surprise was the Shales-Mathews nuptial. Tom and Sella left town quietly and procured a marriage license in a neighboring county and got tied up. Somewhere or another the news leaked out and when they had intended last Saturday to step quietly back into town they were certainly surprised. The whole town went to the depot, the Band was out and under the melodious strains of 'Hail, Hail, the gangs all here" they marched the young couple through town to their future cozy home. This is a hard year on old bachelors and the rest of our array here might well beware. We join however, with the entire population with the heartiest wishes for the welfare of the newlyweds.
