'Tis a common belief that a woman can't keep a secret but the friends of Mrs. Guy Powers, nee Winifred Canada, will have to admit that she is an exception to this rule, for she slipped away from them and was quietly married on the twenty-sixth of last August, and no one even guessed the secret, until she made the announcement herself a few days ago.
The groom is a resident of Rex, Saskatchewan, Canada, and it is here that the couple will make their future.
The quiet wedding took place in the Catholic church at Paynton, Saskatchewan, the nuptial Mass being said by Rev. Father English of that place. Only the immediate family of Mr. Powers witnessed the ceremony.
After the wedding Mrs. Powers returned to Elkader and in September resumed her work as teacher in the sixth and seventh grades of the consolidated school at Luana, as the new home which Mr. Powers was building at Rex would not be finished untill after the holidays. Mr. Powers who is a civil engineer, was on the Canadian draft list, and for that reason was not allowed to leave Canada at the time of the marriage, making it necessary for Mrs. Powers to join him there.
Mrs. Powers left Elkader yesterday for Rex where she and her husband will soon go to housekeeping.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Canada of this city, and is well known in Elkader social circles.
