At the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Carpenter, Wednesday, occurred the marriage of their daughter, Mary Ethel, to Isaac Havens Merritt, Rev. G. W. Baxter, of the Congregational church of Elkader, officiating. The groom is the son of Mrs. H. S. Merritt, of this place, and now occupies a responsible position in the voucher department of the Swift Co., of St. Paul, Minn. He was born and raised to manhood in Elkader, graduating from our High School, and later from the Wisconsin Business University at La Crosse, Wis. His Grandpa, Isaac Havens, gave the couple a check for $1,000., among the many useful and beautiful gifts the new couple received. The couple departed for St. Paul on the noon train. Among the relatives present from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Janks, of Lamont; Mrs. Wm. Garland and daughter Edith, of Aurora, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Whitney, of Fayette, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Williams, of McGregor; and James Williams, of Jennings, La.
