Backes - Niemann marriage - 1928

A pretty wedding was solemnized at the Pioneer Rock church at Ceres this day (Thursday) when Miss Alvina Nieman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Niemann, The wedding march was played by Mrs. Louis Niemann. of Guttenberg, and Mr. Ervin Backes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Backes, of Jefferson township, were united in marriage by Rev. Bunge, of Garnavillo. They were attended by Miss Anita Niemann as bridesmaid, and Mr. Arnold Backes as best man. The occasion also commemorated the forty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Niemann, parents of the bride. The newlyweds will leave on an extended trip to points in western Iowa and Dakota. After March 1st, Mr. and Mrs. Backes will reside on a farm near Garnavillo.

(Note: The surname Nieman / Niemann was spelled both ways in the article, as shown.)
