Clayton County-The agricultural Society of Clayton County hold their next Clayton fair at Clayton Centre on the 30th day of September and the first day of October.
A county seat war is rising again between Elkader, Garnavillo, Clayton Centre and Farmersburg, all being imminent over Guttenberg, present possessor of the floating county.
From the McGregor Times we learn from the 1st to the 31st of August exclusive, there have been 57 arrivals of upriver boats, discharging freight at this place. The number of pounds delivered, 458, 682, exclusive of bulk freight, not easily estimated. By the M. & M. Railroad and Steam Ferry, the amount delivered and reported at the warehouse is 854,000 pounds, but this does not give a just idea of the extent to which the Milwaukee Road is reaching on the Iowa side; number of teamsters prefer to go across river to load and that freight of course is not reported to the wharf clerk at all. The full amount of tonnage by the Railroad for the month we believe would exceed 450,000 pounds.
