Dubuque Daily Times Wednesday, Sep 01, 1875, Dubuque, IA Page 2

A woman living near Strawberry Point, was bitten by a rattlesnake, last Sunday.morning on the big toe-it being exposed. Bound to have revenge, she picked up an ax, and cut the reptile into small pieces, and then resumed work, In a short time, however, a feeling of sickness began to come over her, when she went to the house and commenced doctoring herself, by killing a chicken and binding parts of it on the bite. This kind of treatment being of no avail, and she in the meantime growing rapidly worse, a doctor was sent for when she was found to be in a very precarious condition. Repeated draughts of whiskey were given her, and it is thought her life might be saved.
