On Wednesday, Jan. 9th, 1901, at the Catholic church at Elkport, at eight o'clock, occurred the marriage of Miss Mamie Phelan, of Elkport, to W. J. Magril, of Ryan, Delaware county. Rev. Daniel T. Minogue, performed the ceremony in the presence of friends who gathered to witness the happy event, after which they all repaired to the home of the bride's parents, where a sumptuous repast was served, to which all did ample justice, or at least ye scribe did it justice. Here the immediate friends of the bride and groom assembled and spent the day and evening till the wee morning hours, when all left wishing the bride and groom all the good things which this life can yield, and all join in praise of the wholesouled genial hospitality of Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary. The bride is the eldest daughter of Thomas and Mary Phelan. She was born and grew to womanhood in the midst of her Clayton county friends and is well known throughout the county as one of our successful teachers. Loved and respected by all who know her she will be a noble companion for him who has chosen her for a lifemate.
While the groom is a comparative stranger here, he comes very highly recommended by those who knew him from childhood as an industrious farmer, an honest, law-abiding citizen, a true friend, kind neighbor, loving brother and a faithful and dutiful son.
The writer joins with a host of friends in Delaware and Clayton counties in wishing them a long, happy and prosperous wedded life on earth, with better joys in Heaven.
Elkader Register, Thur. 17 Jan. 1901.
