A pretty church wedding took place last Thursday afternoon, when Miss Clara E. Opperman became the bride of Mr. Andrew B. Hughes, of Manning, Iowa. Flower boys were Ernest Opperman and Donald Hagge, brother and nephew of the bride. Ruth Hagge, niece of the bride, carried the ring in a basket of brown susans. Rev. Fritschel read the ring services in the presence of relatives and friends. Miss Leta Opperman, a sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. The bridal party accompanied by the guests, returned to the home of the bride's parents, where a four course dinner was served.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Opperman and has lived in this vicinity all her life. She attended the High School and graduated with the class of 1915. After completing her high school course, she attended the U.I.U. at Fayette, taking a B.A. course where she graduated in 1919, after which she took up the profession of teaching and for the last year she has been principal of the Lamont High School. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hughes, former resident of this place, but now of Ames. He too, graduated with the class of 1915 and afterward attended the Iowa State College at Ames, taking up a dairy course. During the World War he was in service overseas, and when the armistice was signed, he was fitting himself (to) be Lieutenant.
Mr. and Mrs. Hughes left that evening with the best wishes of a host of friends for their home at Manning, Iowa, which place the groom is employed as buttermaker.
Among the guests from out of town who attended the wedding were: Mrs. A. M. Hughes and Howard, of Ames, mother and brother of the groom; and the Misses Lucile Dickman, Eloise Clothier, Ruth Simmonson, Lois Cook, Mary Barrett, Ollie Candle and Florence Otley of Fayette; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schiess of Manchester.
