Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Jan. 1890. Clayton Catches column.
Frank Liers Jr., came very near losing his life while out skating with some of his schoolmates last week. He skated into an air-hole, and had it not been for August W. Benson, a brave young Swede, he would have drowned.
Benson remained near the air-hole and kept up the little fellows courage until some of the other boys could get a pole, with which he drew Frank near enough to enable him to pull him from the water.
Words cannot express the gratitude felt by Mr. and Mrs. Liers for brave August, and they shudder to think what might have been if he to had scampered for the shore.
