Elkader Register, Thur., 17 Sept. 1903. From the Clayton County Journal.
A pretty home wedding took place at the residence of Mrs. Harriet Friedlein, in this city, Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock, when Clara L., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Scholz, and Fred N., second son of Mrs. Harriet Friedlein, two of Guttenberg's popular young people, plighted their vows amid a bank of ferns and flowers. The ceremony was performed by the bride's father, Justice W. H. Scholz, and Emil, brother of the bride, acted as best man, while Miss Ina, the grooms sister, attended the bride.
The bride wore a gown of white silk and carried bride's roses. The bridesmaid was attired in a cream silk mull and carried carnations. After the ceremony about fifty guests were served at a sumptuous spread.
Clara and Fred were schoolmates and have known each other from childhood and it does now seem befitting that they should journey life's pathway together. The bride completed the course of the Guttenberg High School in 1898 and since that time has been one of Clayton county's successful teachers. Fred graduated from the Bayless college at Dubuque some years ago, since which time he has held several responsible positions in this city, being at present book-keeper for Zimmerman & Ives. They will reside in Guttenberg and be "at home" to friends after September 15th.- Clayton County Journal.
