Married at the residence of the bride’s parents, in Elkader, May 30th, 1871, by Rev. B.F. Taylor, Mr. Albert Jones of Emmettsburg, Iowa, and Miss Mattie Mahony, of Elkader.
This event was not wholly unexpected by us, and consequently are not surprised; but it does give us pleasure to refer to it, and to congratulate the parties on the consummation of so important a life event as matrimony. Both are our friends, whom we have known for years, and we cannot therefore lightly pass over it.
Mr. Jones when here, was one of most esteemed young men, and his bride a most amiable girl, and as they left yesterday for their new home, many were the good wishes that followed them.
The ceremony which was performed at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mahony, was witnessed by the friends and relatives of the parties, and after the ceremony, the bride was presented by Mr. A. T. Jones, father of the bridegroom, with a magnificent silver tea set, consisting of eight pieces. Of the many good things which Mrs. Mahony had spread out for her guests, the printers have had ample reason to judge by the extremely liberal supply of wedding cake which reached us, and for which we render thanks in behalf of all the Journal family. A long life and prosperous voyage, is our wish.
