PLACE, DURKEE

Married at the McGregor House, January 16th, 1861, by Rev. S. P. Sloan, Mr. R. C. Place and Miss Eunice Durkee both of Elkader.

It always affords us much pleasure to publish marriage notices, but none more than the above, for we are acquainted with the young couple who were so recently joined in “holy wedlock.”

Mr. Place is a wholesouled young man, and possessed of excellent business capacities and who will not fail in making a place for Mrs. Place and the little Places that are to fill his place when he is gone from this earthly place.

Miss Durkee, now Mrs. Place, is one of nature’s noble women and will be a faithful wife to Mr. Place. We wish the young couple all the prosperity and happiness that a kind Heaven can bestow on mortals.

“When first the dear youth, passing
Disclosed his fair form to her sight,
She gaz’d but she could not tell why,
Her heart it went throb with delight.
As nearer he drew, those sweet eyes,
Were with their dear meaning so bright,
She trembled and lost in surprise,
Her heart it went throb with delight.
When his lips their dear accents did try
The return of her love to excite.
She feign’d yet began to guess why
Her heart it went throb with delight.
They chang’d the stol’n glance and the fond smile,
Which lovers alone read aright;
They look’d and they sigh’d, yet the while
Their hearts they went throb with delight.
Consent she soon blush’d, with a sigh
Her promise she ventur’d to plight’
Come, Bymen, ye then know why
Their hearts they go throb with delight.
