GREAT BEAR HUNT- The 'Du Buque Transcript' gives an account of a great Bear
Hunt that came off in Clayton County recently. A few of the 'Hunters of Turkey
river,' tracked some of these varmint to a cavern. One or 'more' of the party
entered the cavern a la mode Putnam, and before they left it they killed EIGHT
BEARS! Clayton County beats all other places for its Bear ground.

-'Hawk Eye'; Burlington, Iowa; Dec 28, 1843
