Last Will and Testament
John H. Davis
1 May 1873
I John H. Davis of Cass Township in the County of Clayton and State of Iowa. Farmer by occupation being of sound mind do make this my last will and testament. I give, devise and bequeath my estate and property, real and personnal as follows that is to say: I give, devise and bequeath unto my Wife Anna one third of my real estate as alloted her by law, the balance of my real estate and personal property after paying the expenses of my last sicknesss and funeral expenses and after paying my Son David Davis the sum of One Dollar as his share of my estate, and my son Job Davis the sum of one Dollar as his share if my estate, and my son J. W. Davis the sum of one Dollar as his share of my estate, and to my son William Davis the sum of one Dollar as his share of my estate and to my Daughter Margaret Lathrop the sum of one Dollar as her share of my estate to wit: I give devise and bequeath unto my sons John F. Davis, Rees Davis, Dan Davis and Benjamin Davis and Anna Davis the said balance of my property Real and personal. John F. Dan, Reese and Benjamin are to have equal shares and Anna is to have one half as much as either of the sons John F, Rees, Dan or Benjamin and I do hereby appoint J. W. Davis of Cass Township in Clayton Co. and State of Iowa Farmer, Executor of this my last will. In witness whereof I have signed and published and declared this instrument as my will at Cass Township Clayton County Iowa on this 1st day of May 1873.

I Morris Cook clerk of the Circuit Court on and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the March Term A.D. 1874 of said Court the Will and Testement in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date on the 1st day of May 1873 was duly proved before and allowed by said Court as and for the last Will and Testament of the real and presonal estate of John H. Davis late of said County deceased and was ordered by said Court to be recorded as such Will and testament In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court at my office in Elkader in said County this 2nd day of March A.D. 1874
