The following information has been collected by the late Judy and Jerry Moyna from several newspapers from the county including the Clayton County Journal, The Elkader Register, and the Clayton County Register, etc.
______________________26 Apr 1928 John Buchheim was shot by Mrs. Tena Funk. Tena and John had an affair and Tena was expecting. She aborted the child and the baby screamed and screamed. She dressed in men’s clothes and went down to straw stack where John was working and shot him. Witnessed by Erwin Brietsprecher. Emilie Seifert held dish pan while Dr. McGrath looked for bullet in John’s body. Tena was taken to Rockwell City. Funk divorced her. She later married a Putizer. She and Funk had a daughter Inez who married William Ruhser. Inez Funk Rusher and her dad both had a leg amputated because of malignancy. (My grandmother Lillian Vogt told this story to me; she was the daughter of Emilie Seifert mentioned earlier.)
11 Dec 1947 Miss Erma Eggiman entertained 8 of her school friends at a matinee party at the Elkader Theatre Sunday afternoon followed by a goose dinner. Games and bingo furnished the evening’s entertainment with prizes going to Ilsa Ruff, Bernadine and Dorothy Seifert and Lillian Olson. Guests included Prudence Meder, Ilsa Ruff, Donna Tieden, Elaine Holm, Mary Ann Kalke, Bernadine and Dorothy Seifert, and Lillian Olson.
