Martha "Grinell" is listed as a "widow" with her sonm George in the 1900 San Francisco census. I wonder if John Jay Grinnell had actually died prior to 1900 (in California). You never know with census records. John Jay Grinnell was the son of John Grinnell who came to Clayton Co IA about 1856.

I am very happy that this information about John Jay Grinnell has been posted on this great website.
