To George A. Kelley b. 1848
Alma’s or “Elma is refereed to as “Elle” Wakefield this could be Elizabeth Wakefield a sister but I sure don’t know how read these records better.
Samuel M. Wakefield is shown in the 1850 fed. c. of Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois. He M. Susanna L Bower. b 1828 Pen. On Oct. 16, 1846 Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois.. First Named openly named in 1850 fed. census record’s just like so many of young Americans. Samuel is living in Rock Islands lower ward. Fed. C. of 1850 holds the names of Samuel Susanna Rachel, Thomas later known as Morton Thomas Wakefield. Elma is the next child born in Rock Island City, & County, Illinois.
The Iowa State census rec. of 1856 pulls this story all together. The state c.. Show’s a young Wakefield family born in Illis. then there was the move to Princeton, Scott County, and Iowa. The Iowa State census rec. of 1856 show’s Rachel, and Elma as sisters. There are other land rec. showing this family all to gather also. See Scott County Iowa land records of 1875.
Our Family has 3 photos of Wade Kelley. Two with WW 1 stile Montana peek hat and hat cords. One in full dress showing unit markings rank ect.. I can’t find Wade in Military rec. As I see it I really don’t what year he was born either. I have found Alma Wakefield in 1870 fed. census in Mashielton Township, Cedar County, Iowa. Alma is working for the Tanner family.1880 in Mashielton Township, Cedar County, Iowa. This is the County were she married Eliza Tanner. She is shown living with William M. Wakefield her brother there are 2 children there also in the 1880 fed census records. I found her in 1885 in a Boone County building for the homeless. In 1900, 1910, 1920. And in the 1929 phone book Elma, “Elsie” Wakefield- Kelley and her daughter Grace Kelley b. in abt. 1878. They are shown living at the 841 8th St. Davenport, Scott County, Iowa home. They will hold this address till 1930 when the depression hits so hard. The death for Alma I have placed for Alma “Elma” is at 1930 Elma the widow of William Kelley is shown in 1929 on the 841 8th St. Davenport, address. However in 1930 Elma is not shown in the phone books.
How I have wondered long and restlessly about that tall and lankly young Irish boy with the rounded out side ears “rounded pena.” How I hoped his life went so well for him. I hope his many kids grew up eating Power Milk Biscuits. Oh Wade were have you gone.
Mark Morton Wakefield. You can pick up Wakefield Gene in Scott County Iowa or Rock Island Illis.
