Dear Friend, I have been planning to write to you ever since Christmas. My mother was very sick at Christmas time with the flu cough and been very weak but is gaining fast now and my father was sick last week but is gaining strength again. There seems to be a lot of sick people here but I suppose it is the same everywhere. Mrs. Mrs. Ed Femule has been sick since New Years but is able now to feed her chickens. Lizzie is feeling just fine and looks it too. Margaret Toomey is still living in Wadena. The same Margaret. We have a new Pastor Father Cregan. We like him very much. I suppose Mrs. Dan Raftis is as busy there as she was in Wadena. I am nearly through with the assessing and will be glad to where it is finished. It means lots of transpiring around town and not very much pay.
They are talking of building a new school house here and if they do I think we will have to move out taxes will be so high. Did you enjoy your winter in Florida last year and do you think you will go again? Well I must close my letter now. I hope you are enjoying good health. Mamma often speaks of you and wishes you could come and see us sp try and come sometime. Your Friend, Margaret Kennedy
P.S. I am sending you a picture of mamma taken in a natural poise. Don’t you think it looks well of her? M.Source: handwritten letter found with papers and postcards from Adolph Hanson, Elkader, Iowa
