John S. Woolstencroft, journalist, b. in Clayton county, Iowa, Dec. 23, 1848; served in the Sixth Iowa cavalry in the Indian war, 1864-5; came to Jackson county, Minn., in 1868; settled at Heron Lake in 1881; owned and managed a hotel, 1888-1908; was editor and publisher of the 'Jackson County Times' after 1896.
