Martin P. Nieman is the owner of a highly improved farm of one hundred and ninety-eight acres in Oneida township and is doing his share to further the agricultural development of his locality. He was born in Clayton county, Iowa, November 12, 1880, a son of W. C. and Mary (Brandhorst) Nieman, and when but a year old was brought by his parents to this county. He was reared and educated in Delhi township and through assisting his father with the work of the homestead became himself an efficient agriculturist.

When Mr. Nieman started out in life on his own account he decided to follow farming and he has never had occasion to regret his choice of a life work. He is a man of foresight and does promptly and well all of the tasks that collectively make up farming, and as he is also efficient in the management of the business phases of agriculture he has steadily prospered financially. On the 1st of March, 1907, he moved upon his present place, which he had previously purchased and which consists of one hundred and ninety-eight acres of rich and fertile land. There are excellent buildings upon the farm, the fields are well fenced and the land is in a high state of cultivation. Since it came into his possession he has not only kept everything in the best repair, but has added to the house and erected a few needed outbuildings. He carries on diversified farming as he realizes the advantages to be secured from coordinating all phases of agriculture and thus eliminating waste. His grain is of fine quality and his average yield per acre is good. He is equally successful as a stock-raiser, his animals being of high grade.

On the 1st of May, 1907, Mr. Nieman was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Bradke, a daughter of Herman and Marie (Buschagen) Bradke. The parents emigrated from Germany to the United States four decades ago and have since lived in the vicinity of Hopkinton. To Mr. and Mrs. Nieman have been born the following children: Maynard, born March 17, 1908; Robert, born August 12, 1909; and George, whose birth occurred April 5, 1911.

Mr. Nieman is a republican in his political views but has never desired to hold office although he takes a commendable interest in public affairs. His outstanding characteristics are such as win general respect and liking and all consider him a man of industry, of unimpeachable honor and of genuine kindness of heart.
