Former Well Known Spencer Woman Dies in St. Paul Hospital
Mrs. Theodore Magnuson, of St. Paul, a former and well-known Spencer resident, passed away last Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12, at 4:15 o'clock in the Anchor hospital in St. Paul, following an illness of tuberculosis meningitis from which she suffered for several weeks. At the time of her death, Mrs. Magnuson was 32 years, 11 months and 6 days old.
The remains were brought to Spencer last Friday evening and taken to the Jones funeral home, West First street, where funeral rites took place Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the Congregational church, had charge of the services. Mrs. Louis Helm and Mrs. Charles G. Rankin sang "In the Sweet By and By" and "We're Going Down the River One by One." Mrs. Howard Rice was pianist.
Burial was made in Riverside cemetery, Spencer. Pall bearers were Leslie England, Victor England, Irving England, Fred Nelson, Harry Partridge and William Berne. Mr. Magnuson accompanied the body to Spencer and remained here with relatives until after the funeral services. He returned to St. Paul the first of the week.
Marian Adelaide Sutcliffe, the daughter of Ralph Sutcliffe, of Vermillion, S.D., was born Dec. 6, 1897, at Spencer, where she grew into young womanhood. She attended the Spencer schools.
After the death of her mother, which occurred when Mrs. Magnuson was a small child, she made her home with her aunt, Mrs. Geo. Mick, Spencer, until she was 8 years old and then lived with her grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Weatherbee, until after her marriage to Theodore Magnuson, of Clay county, which took place at Spencer, Sept. 6, 1916.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Magnuson lived on a farm near Spencer for a few years and then moved to Franklin, Minn., where they lived for several years before moving to St. Paul, where they had resided for the past four years.
Mrs. Magnuson is survived by her husband, four children, Ralph Oscar, age 13; Charles Pershing, age 12; Leroy Elliot, age 10, and Betty Theodora, age 5; her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sutcliffe, of Vermillion, S.D.; grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Weatherbee; aunt, Mrs. George Mick; cousin, Mrs. Charles O. Lewis, all of Spencer, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.
Out of town relatives at the services were her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sutcliffe.
