An extremely sad death was that of Miss Ora Viva Glee Blackmer which occurred at six o'clock on Saturday morning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Blackmer, six miles north of Peterson.

Last November, "Viva," as she was familiarly called, became afflicted with infantile paralysis and everything within human power was done to alleviate her sufferings and prolong the precious life. In December she was taken to Iowa City in hopes that higher medical skill could effect a cure, and for a time her condition showed a slight improvement, but complications in the form of heart trouble developed which resulted in her death at the hour above stated.

Ora Viva Glee Blackmer was born on January 10, 1905, and was therefore in her fifteenth year at the time of her death. She graduated from the Yankee school in 1918. The following September she entered the Peterson high school and last fall she enrolled as a student for the sophmore high school work, where she attended until taken sick.

Bright, happy and cheerful Viva carried sunshine with her wherever she went. She had always a smile and pleasant word for her friends. Her death comes as a dark shadow to her friends and relatives who loved her so dearly. During her brief school days in our city her sweet face and winning ways won the hearts of both teacher and pupils and when they heard of he death the members of her class sent beautiful floral offerings to the saddened home.

Besides her parents she leaves to mourn her untimely death four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Emory Harris of Royal, and the Misses Irma, Beulah and Margery Blackmer and Roy Blackmer at home, and her grandparents, County Recorder and Mrs. W.L. McCown, of Spencer and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Batho, formerly of Peterson but now of Rock Rapids, were held from the Methodist church at Peterson at two o'clock on Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Peterson cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends from this city were in attendance at the services.
