Samuel Crozier, one of the pioneers of Douglas township, and for many years a resident of Spencer at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Smith, died Sunday morning at six o'clock from a generally weakened condition, the result of advanced age. Mr. Crozier was born November 21, 1830, in Ulster county, New York, and it was there he spent his boyhood and early manhood, working on a farm. He adopted farming as his vocation, and came to this county in 1863, settling in Douglas township where he remained until 1880. Since then he has resided most of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Walter Smith, of this city. For several years Mr. Crozier was captain of one of the boats on lake Okoboji. His marriage to Kathryn Doyle occurred January 1, 1860, in Buffalo, N. Y. Four daughters were born to them of whom Mrs. Walter Smith is the only surviving one. He left four grandchildren, three residing in Buffalo, N. Y., and Rush Smith of this city, also a brother, Joseph, who
lives in Portland, Oregon.The funeral services took place at two o'clock Tuesday, September 20, at the home of Mrs. Walter Smith, and were conducted by Rev. E. Merle Adams, assisted by Rev.T. P. Thomas. Interment was made at the Fannie Fern cemetery located on his homestead in Douglas township.
