Sadie E. Rhodes was born in Monroe, Iowa, May 5th, 1876, and died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ann Rhodes, in Stuart, Iowa, March 22, 1911, being aged at death, 34 years, 10 months and 17 days.

She came with her parents to Stuart, Iowa, in 1880, where she remained until her marriage to J.M. Bergeman on June 11, 1901.

Since their marriage their home has been at different places and at the time of her being taken with her last illness, their home was at Madison, Wis. Here she was taken to the hospital for treatment, where she remained for six weeks, when her longing to come to the house of her mother and her friends, of early was so great that she was taken to Stewart. It was a time of anxious waiting, just seemingly a balancing between life and death, until finally the end came in quietness and peace.

Mrs. Bergeman was well known here as one of Clay county's most successful teachers for several years previous to her marriage. In her school work she was satisfied only with the best efforts of her pupils. She was earnest and wished to manifest by her every act that Christ was a real Savior. She was so anxious to recover that she might live ever more to his glory. In her early life Mrs. Bergeman was active in the work of the Congregational Sunday School and the work of the young people of that church. And while she never identified herself with the church or became a member of any church, she always felt the importance of doing her part of helping on the work of the kingdom on earth. There came to her in her last illness, the full consciousness of her acceptance with God, and the assurance of salvation so that her last days were spent in the joy which those who know that for them all is well.

The body was brought to Spencer Thursday, funeral services held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Collins and Rev. Beckman, of Summit township. Interment was made at Riverside cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the Spencer people.
