ANDREW, John Nichol

Last Friday, about noon, Mr. J. N. Andrew of the firm of Andrew & Constant, of this city, was called to his reward, after a lingering illness extending through a period of eleven years. The seed of the disease which finally caused his death was sown in his system while in the army of the Union, where he preformed faithful service for more than three years.

Mr. Andrew was born at La Fayette, Ind. in 1829. In 1850 he was married, but was called to mourn the death of his wife in less than a year and a half. As the result of this union there was one daughter, Mrs. Hopkins, who now lives in the state of New York. In 1855 he came to Iowa and the following year married Jane Braden who now mourns his death. In 1860, he united with the Congregational church of Martinsburg, of this state. After the war he lived in Indianola for fifteen years, and during the greater part of that time was postmaster of that city. In 1879 he came to Spencer, and the following year was taken sick, since when with occasional exceptions, he was confined to his home.

He was one of a family of eight children, six of whom are still living. His father and mother are still living, at La Fayette, Ind., and are very aged. He leaves three daughters--Mrs. Hopkins, of New York, Mrs. Noble and Mrs. Constant, of this city. They funeral occurred on Tuesday: services at the family residence, were conducted by Rev. J. O. Thrush, of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. II.J. Brown, of the Free Baptist church.

Annett Post, G.A.R. of which deceased was an honored member, turned out in a body, to pay their final tribute of respect to their departed comrade. Mr. Andrew, during his many years of residence in our midst established himself firmly in the confidence and affections of our people, and by his death the community sustains the loss of an honored and good citizen.
