Funeral services for Darrell Dean Jessen, 73 of Gillett Grove were held Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. The Rev. Durwood Clauson officiate
Burial was at the Barnes Township Cemetery of Linn Grove
Casket Bearers were; Sgt. Jeremiah Jessen, Mark Anderson, Shane Jessen, Joshua Jessen, Chad Anderson, Troy Heine and Rick Keith
The Sliefert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
Mr. Jessen died Wednesday, December 20, 2000 in Clay County
Darrell Dean Jessen was born to Lester and Ethel (Lennert) Jessen on May 19, 1927 in Danbury. He attended grade school in both Battle Creek and Correctionville. Later he attended Correctionville High School
He served in World War II in the United States Navy. He enlisted into the Navy on August 6, 1944, and received an honorable discharge on November 25, 1947 earning the rank of AS S2C S1C
He married Elaine Olson on March 25, 1948. To this union, three children were born. In 1993, he married Gerri Hale in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. to this union he received two step sons.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove for many years, where he was both baptized and confirmed
Darrell worked at National By Products in Linn Grove before he went to work for Spencer Foods. Later he came back to Linn Grove and ran Jessen's Rendering Service, He served on the Linn Grove Volunteer Fire Department, City Clerk of Linn Grove, member of the Gillett Grove City Council and later by working to beautify Gillett Grove
He was preceded in death by his parents
He is survived by his wife, Gerri Jessen of Gillett Grove; sons Steven and Amy Jessen and Stewart and Rebecca Jessen, both of Linn Grove; daughter, Patricia Anderson and special friend, Gus Reyes of Storm Lake; step sons, Sgt. Michael Medina and Terri of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Jeffrey Michael Medina and finance, Alonna Atley of Iowa City; brother Arlo Jessen of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren
