Ruth Powell, 105, Spencer, died Thursday, September 30, at Longhouse Residence, Spencer
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4 at 10 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Robert H. Fleischmann
Pallbearers will be John Cotton, Rick Anderson, Bill Wendlandt, Tom Thomas, John Campbell and Dr. George Fieselmann
Honorary Pallbearers are all the people who knew and loved her and whom she knew and lived in return
Burial will be at Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove, with Warner Funeral Home, Spencer, in charge of arrangements
Ruth Ann Powell, the daughter of Watson and Ann (Myatt) Crane, was born January 11, 1888 in Maquoketa. She received her early education and graduated from high school in Laurens. Following high school, she attended Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls and graduated with a Bachelor of Didactics degree
Mrs. Powell worked as a teacher and school superintendent in various schools in northwest Iowa. she also traveled with the Redpath Vawter Chautauqua across the western United States
She married E.F. Powell of the Linnwood Stock Farms in Linn Grove and together they operated the purebred Shorthorn and Holstein cattle farm.
The couple moved to Spencer in 1944
Mrs. Powell was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served on various boards and committees. She was a member of the Iowa Federated Woman's Club for more than 70 years
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Marvel Allyn; an infant son, four sisters and two brothers
She is survived by three daughters, Clair Powell Wood and her husband, Reuben of Spencer; Clariss Powell Witt of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Mildred Powell Roberts of Sioux Rapids; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren
