Mrs. Alice Stouffer, 76, beloved Spencer mother, passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon, April 24,1935, at her home, 663 East Park street. She ate dinner with her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Siberell, feeling In good health.
She was suddenly overcome with apoplexy, and passed away at 1:30 o'clock. Mrs. Stouffer was the mother of Oscar Stouffer, Spencer fire chief.
Funeral services, which have not been fully arranged, are in charge of the Jones' funeral home.
Alice Richards was born at Davis, Illinois February 28, 1859, the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Best) Richards. She attended the Davis schools, and was married at Lena, Illinois, in 1882, to Joseph Stouffer. They came to Clay county in March, 1894, locating on a farm west of Spencer. Two years later they moved on a place two miles southeast of Fostoria, where they made their home for many years, and which land is retained by the family. In 1913 they moved to- the present home on East Park street
Mr. Stouffer died in 1919.
Mr. and Mrs. Siberell have made their home with Mrs. Stouffer.
Seven Children
Mrs. Stouffer was a member of the Grace M. E. church, the Woman's Relief corps and the social club of the corps.
The seven children born to Mrs. Stouffer survive her. They are Mrs. Nora B. Siberell of Spencer, Emerson E. Stouffer, who farms the home place near Fostoria, Mrs. Clyde (Berdena I.) Cornell of Ridgefield, Wash., Ralph S. Stouffer of Stady, North Dakota, Earl W. Stouffer of Salt Lake City, Utah, Oscar F. Stouffer of Spencer and Miss Elsie, who teaches at Kalama, Washington.
There are 13 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Martha Fowler of Lena, Illinois, who has visited here recently and a brother, William T. Richards of Rock City, Illinois. Mrs. Amanda Best of this city is a great aunt of Mrs. Stouffer
To Arrive for Rites
Word has been received that Ralph Stouffer, Mrs. Clyde Cornwell and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stouffer and two children, Norma and Shirley will arrive for the funeral services. It is expected that Miss Elsie Stouffer will also be here
The sudden death of Mrs. Stouffer is keenly felt in the community. Of a most pleasant and affable disposition, Mrs. Stouffer endeared herself to many. She had been in excellent health and last summer made an extended visit to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cornell in Ridgefield. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her children and their families
