Funeral Services Held Thursday for J. H. Bowen

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Congregational church in Peterson for John H. Bowen, 84, who died Monday at the University Hospital in Iowa City.
Rev. C. A. Hyde officiated, and interment was in the Peterson cemetery.

Mr. Bowen, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Bowen, was born September 2, 1851, at Carbondale, Penn. In 1864 he accompanied his parents to Fond du Lac, Wis., and in 1870 moved to Boone. The family came to Peterson in 1887.

Mr. Bowen was united in marriage to Emma Dimler December 25, 1879.

Those Surviving;
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bowen: John Bowen of Peterson, Will who died in infancy; Fred of Humboldt, Bret of Peterson, Mrs. Carrie Smith of Hartley and Mrs. F. M. Boatman of Spencer.
There are also four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Bowen for a time assisted his sons in the operation of the Bowen Brothers grocery store at Peterson and for the last year had lived with the Boatman's, seven miles southeast of Spencer.

Mr. Bowen had the distinction of playing the snare drum in the Peterson band for 50 years, and had not missed a single Declaration day celebration during that lime.
