Samuel H. Strawn, one of Clay county's best known and most highly respected citizens, died at his home in Greenville, Monday evening at 7:30
o'clock, after an illness covering a period of several years.
The deceased was born in Pennsylvania in 1841 and subsequently moved to Illinois.
He served his country four and one-half years faithfully and nobly, being engaged in some of the most important battles of the war.
After the close of the war, he went to Nevada,and in 1872 he came to Clay county and settle in Gillett Grove township where he owned 250 acres of excellent land.
When his health failed, he removed from the farm to Greenville where he resided at the time of his death.
The funeral services will be held at the Friends church at Greenville at 10:00 a.m. today
(Wednesday) conducted by Rev. N C. Harvey, and the remains interred in Rosehill cemetery in Gillette Grove township.
