Mary Daugherty
Mary Jones, daughter of Malachl and Charity Jones, was born near Plainfield, Coshocton County, Ohio, January 7, 1839, She was married to Robert Daughterty April 7, 1857 and after a wedded life of over forty-five years she died June 26, 1902 at 10 o'clock of paralysis and nervous prostration at the age of sixty-three years, six months, and nineteen days.
She married a companion of her childhood days and lived near the place of her birth until 1891 when the family moved to Clay county where they have since lived.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Daugherty, three daughters, Charity, Kits and Belle; four sons, Seth, Willis, John and Frank.
All have grown to maturity and with their father survive the mother. All but two sons who live in Ohio were present at the funeral.
Mrs. Daugherty's life has been one of almost constant suffering until her last illness which gave her no pain but a sense of weakness gradually came upon her until her life entered into the higher and larger service of heaven almost as peacefully as a child going to sleep. Dr. Munger, the attending physician, said what all have felt, that she had lived for years by
sheer force of will. But with all her suffering she was seldom heard to complain and kept
herself busy at her household duties almost to the last. She was converted at the age of twenty-one and became a member of the Presbyterian church, in which church she retained her membership until she came to Iowa and joined the Harmony church.
The funeral was held from the residence and Harmony church Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m. and the remains were interred in Rose Hill cemetery
