Thomas G. Zeien
Thomas G. Zeien. a resident of Spencer for the past three and one-half ears, died Wednesday evening at his home on East Second street. Mr. Zeien had been in ill health for the past few years, suffering from a complication of lung disorders and had been confined to his bed for ten weeks, Futile attempts to affect a cure or even relief from suffering was made in trip to Rochester where a consultation and examination at Mayo Bros, Hospital confirmed the opinion of the local physicians that no help could be given the patient.
Thomas Zeien was born In Chickasaw county, Iowa, July 10, 1878, and at the time of this death was 44 years, months and 10 days of age. He was born on a farm and lived with his parents at various farm homes which hey occupied until he was a youth of sixteen when he took up other forms of work.
Mr. Zeien was married July 10, 1899, to Miss Minnie Bohl, who survives him. The marriage took place In New Hampton, Iowa, and for a number of years the family home was at Elma, Iowa. Twelve years ago, they moved o Mason City. Until moving to Mason City Mr. Zeien was engaged in rai road work but gave this up and begun work with the Minneapolis Thresher company as a salesman. After a few months with this company he gave up his position and began work for the Pedelty Threshing Machine company, the family moving to Spencer in 1919. Last spring Mr. Zeien was promoted from the position of salesman to that of branch manager of the Pedelty company and was making rapid strides in his work as illness overtook him.
Four children are left in the family, all of whom are at home. They are Alice, Lyle, Leone and Robert. Mr. Zeien is also survived by four sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Minnie Daley and Mrs. Nellie Hart of Mason City, Mrs. John Long of Jamestown, North Dakota, and Mrs. Susan Bohl of Marble Rock, Iowa. The brother, John Zeien, also lives at Mason City.
Mr. Zeien was a life, long member of the Catholic church and was also member of the U. C. T. order in Spencer.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at nine o'clock at Sacred Heart Catholic church, the services being conducted by the Rev. H J. Schleler, pastor of the church. Interment was made at Riverside cemetery.
All the sisters and the brother wen present from away to attend the funeral services and Mrs. Zeien's father Jacob Bohl of Osage, Iowa, was also here.
