Sarah Jane "Jennie" Kellum Humphrey

Jennie Kellum Humphrey was born
in Jackson county, Iowa, April 19.
1847 and departed this life October
12, 1915 at her home north of Sutherland.
Aged 68 years, 5 months, and 13 days.

She was united in marriage to
Joseph Humphrey May 2, 1866 and
came to Clay county in 1878 where
she resided until her death. Eight
children were born to this couple:
Mrs. S. C Rossingham of Minneapolis,
Mrs Thos. Kirkpatrick of Herman,
Minn., Mrs Frank Cowan of
Pipestone, Minn . Jesse of Hartley,
Frank and Edward of Derrick, S. D.,
Mrs. Lewis Baier of Peterson, and
Lillie who lived at home with her
mother.

She became a member of
the Methodist church in her girlhood
days and followed the faith to
the time of her death The husband
and father passed away in
1904. The children were all at her
bedside when death came except
one son.

Mrs. Humphrey was a devoted
mother, devoted to her family as
only a mother can be Her death
was the result of an accident which
resulted in an abscess of the lungs.

Besides her children she leaves four
sisters, two brothers, eighteen
grandchildren, and a great many devoted
friends. The funeral was
held today at 2:30 in the Methodist
church in Peterson, Rev. Batho
conducting the services.

The remains were laid to rest in Oakland
cemetery beside her husband.
