Virgil Vernon Bendlin, 91 yrs., of North Bend, NE died Nov. 23, 2011 at Arbor Manor Living Center in Fremont, NE.

Virgil was born Nov. 2, 1920 at Manson, Iowa to Willhelm & Anna (Pohl) Bendlin. He grew up at Dickens, Iowa and was a 1938 graduate of Okoboji Consolidated School at Okoboji, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He married Jeanne Giep on Oct. 11, 1946 at Jackson, MN. The couple moved to Sutherland, IA where Virgil farmed from 1946 to 1975.They lived at Spencer, IA for 10 years, then lived at Weslaco, Texas for 10 years and moved to North Bend, NE in 2000.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Bend.

He was a member of the American Legion of Sutherland, Iowa and Lions Club member at Spencer, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Fremont; daughters, Naomi Sue & husband, Jim Dodge of North Bend and Sally Jo Jean & husband, Russ Bailey of Tulsa, OK; son, Greg & wife, Rena Bendlin of Omaha; brothers, Lowell & wife, Judy Bendlin and Marvin Bendlin all of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Bernice Bowers, Lorraine Pullen and Madalyn Adams all of Spencer, IA, Edna Reynolds of Milford, IA and Shirley Brinkley of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Loretta Bendlin of Spencer, IA; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Joyce Bendlin and Audrey Gillam; and 1 brother, Donald Bendlin.

Funeral service, 9 AM, Monday, Nov. 28th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Bend, NE.

Burial at North Lawn Cemetery at Spencer, IA at 3 PM on Monday with military honors. Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Bend.
