March 30, 1936Silas E. Chalfant, 49, farmer living in Lincoln Township, who passed away Monday, March 30, at 8 a.m. was accorded funeral services Wednesday afternoon
Mr. Chalfant had been in poor health for over a year and death was caused by chronic rayocarditis
Rev. H.V. Bartz, Pastor of the M.E. Church at Webb and Gillette Grove officiated at the rites held at 1 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. in the Gillette Grove M.E. Church
Interment was in Liberty Cemetery near Greenville

Mr. Chalfant was born in Phillipsburg, Kansas, February 7, 1887, the son of John and Jane Phillips Chalfant. When a small boy he accompanied his parents to Iowa, crossing the prairies in a covered wagon
He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Sioux Rapids and Webb, and entered military service, September 4, 1918 at Camp Dodge, serving with Company F. 87th Infantry
On May 20, 1922, he was united in marriage to Ila Davis, to whom two children were born, Donald, 12 and Dale, 8
Those Surviving
Besides his wife and sons and step daughter, Darlene, he leaves to mourn his untimely death, 3 brothers, John and Guy of Webb and Clarence of Rossie; also 4 sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Morris of Dickens, Mrs. Lottie Mills of Appleton, Minnesota, Mrs. Dollie Reed Garver of Boise, Idaho and Mrs. Maggie McArtor of Westbrook, Minnesota all of whom were able to attend the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Garver
Mr. Chalfant was a quiet, home loving man, loved and respected by all who knew him and his passing will be sadly felt by his sorrowing relatives and friends
