January 26, 1961Gustav Heinrich First was born in Drage, Germany, to Henning and Elise First on October 12, 1886, the youngest of 14 children.
He passed away in the Spencer Hospital on January 26, 1961 at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 14 days
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany. In the year 1909 he came to this country.
On January 19, 1927 he was united in marriage to Marie Behrens. To this union one daughter, Evelyn was born.
Most of his life Mr. First spent farming in O'Brien and Clay Counties. In 1936 the family moved to Moneta where he had since resided
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Bress; one grandson, Keith Bress, one sister and one brother in Germany and one sister in Denmark
Funeral services were held in the Moneta Community Church on Saturday, January 28, the Rev. P.J. Daba, Pastor of the Church officiating
Interment was in North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer, under the direction of Warner Funeral Home
Pallbearers; John Schmidt, Rudy Hennings, Hans Kroger, Eddie Zinn, Bill Westphal, Emil Struve
Relatives from a distance attending the services were; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hamilton, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Voss, Beresford, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Loren Eden, Alcester, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Warren, Sioux City and Mrs. Gertrude Eden, Alcester, South Dakota
