Darrel Duane Scharnberg, the son of Louis and Ingrid (Jensen) Scharnberg, was born August 19, 1925 in Everly, Iowa. His childhood was spent in Everly, where he received his education, graduating from Everly High School.

Darrel married Marjorie Jean Thorne on February 2, 1947 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they continued to farm and fed cattle in the Everly area until 1988, when they moved to Spencer.

He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and was a past member of the Lion's Club in Spencer as well as the YMCA.

He passed away at the Milford Nursing Center in Milford, Iowa on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the age of 87.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marjorie; his children: Kenneth Scharnberg and his wife, Nancy of Spencer, Darlene Kelso and her husband, Jerry of Yuma, AZ, Paul Scharnberg of Spencer, IA and Larry Scharnberg of Springfield, MO; four grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 sister, Lenore (Lee) Henrich of Hot Springs, AR; other relatives and friends.
