March 2, 2005Cecilia L. Dethlefsen, 95, of Greenville passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Spencer Hospital
Funeral services are scheduled today, March 5 at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Tonna Parsons officiates the 1:30 p.m. service
Burial is in North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer
Casket Bearers: Peter Dethlefsen, Mark Fairchild, Bill Allen, Don Schoer, John Mills, Lyle Kenobbie
Cecilia Dethlefsen, the daughter of Peter and Lena Clausen Dethlefsen, was born near Odebolt on March 18, 1909. She moved with her family to Greenville in 1914. She received her education there and graduated from Greenville High School in 1927. She attended Buena Vista College for one year, transferred to Iowa State Teachers College at the beginning of her sophomore year and graduated in 1931 with a major in Public School Music. She also did graduate work in several colleges. She taught 42 years in various schools in northwest Iowa retiring in 1974
She was a longtime member of Grace Congregational Church in Greenville.
For many years she was involved in the music activities in the church. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Willard and Carl; one sister in law, Norma Dethlefsen; a nephew, Merlyn Dethlefsen; and a niece, Carmen Bang
She is survived by one sister in law, Lola Dethlefsen; three nieces; Karen Malcom of Belleville, Illinois; Mariette and her husband, Bill Allen of Olathe, Kansas and Norma Jean Brown of Lebannon, Tennessee; one nephew, Peter Dethlefsen of Belleville, Illinois; other relatives and friends
