Virgil Deardorff passed away February 20, 2010 and his lifelong partner of 63 years, Peggy Deardorff, passed away April 22, 2010. Since it was close in time to each other, a double Celebration of Life Mass will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:30 A.M., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, Iowa.Interment will be at North Lawn Memorial Park at 1:30 P.M., in Spencer's North Lawn Memorial Park.

Father Bob BrownVirgil Deardorff was born on February 1, 1926 to Andrew Judge and Laura Marie Deardorff in Spencer, Iowa. He grew up on a farm two miles west of Royal, Iowa and graduated from Royal High School. He attended two years at Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and then joined the Navy as a radar operator on a submarine in WWII.
On February 4, 1947, he was married to Margaret Becker in St. Joe. They raised six children on a farm 5 miles west of Royal. They semi-retireed to Okoboji, then Spirit Lake and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They have resided in Sun City, AZ for the past 11 years.
Virgil never met a person he couldn't talk to and learn something from them. He made friends wherever he went. He loved to sing and play his trombone. Virgil was a master bridge and card player. He enjoyed golf and playing pool with the guys.
Virgil passed away on February 20, 2010 in Sun City at the age of 85.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his only son, Richard, in 1995 and his oldest daughter, Suzanne, in 2007.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Marilyn in Florida and Maryland and his brother, Dale in Texas. There are also four daughters: Mary Lou, Iowa, Janelle, California, Margery, South Carolina and Patricia in Nebraska as well as 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
