Funeral services for Dora Christine Fernay, 97, of Sioux Rapids, were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. The Rev. Raymond Pacholke officiated
Burial in the Northlawn Cemetery, Spencer
Casket Bearers; Wayne Brugman, Steven Brugman, Byron Paul, Jack Phillips, Edgar Quillin and Greg Quillin
Honorary Bearers; Earl Schmid, Art Middendorff
She was born October 1, 1884 near Berlin, Germany, the daughter of John and Emma Metz Frick. when she was one year old, she came to the United States. Fernau grew up in the Durant area and received her education there.
After her marriage to Robert Wheeler on January 4, 1905, they moved to a farm near Moneta. In 1917, they brought a farm south of Royal, where they lived until her husband's death in 1946. She then moved to Sioux Rapids
On December 21, 1949, she married William Fernau
Fernau was a member of the First United Church, the Women's Fellowship and the Sioux Rapids Jolly Elders
Fernau died April 7 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; Robert Wheeler and William Fernau; one daughter, Leona Stone; one son-in-law, Robert Parsons; and one stepson-in-law, Harry Crabb
Survivors include one daughter, Ella Parsons of Sioux Rapids; one son, John Wheeler of Royal; one son-in-law, Robert Stone of Sioux Rapids; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Marie Crabb of Chapin; one step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Josie England of Clear Lake, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren
The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids was in charge of the service arrangements
