Spencer, IowaNorma Ruth Anderson, the daughter of Herbert and Grace Bertha (Whitmore) Van Hooser, was born on January 24, 1922, in Nemaha, Iowa. She was raised in the Webb area where she also attended school and graduated from Webb High School.
Following high school she attended the Open Bible Institute in Des Moines for three years and then enrolled in the Broadlawns School of Nursing also in Des Moines, graduating in 1948.
After graduation, Norma went to Liberia in West Africa and was a missionary nurse until 1956. Norma returned to Spencer in 1958, and was employed at the Spencer Hospital as a registered nurse. She worked there for 21 years before she retired in 1979.
On November 22, 1970, Norma married Lester C. Anderson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer, where she continued to work at the hospital.
Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school and Bible studies.
She was also a past member of the District Nurses Association.
Norma moved to the Highlands in 1991 after her husband's death and lived their until 2007, when she moved into the St. Luke Lutheran Home.
Norma passed away at the St. Luke Lutheran Home on April 14, 2009 at the age of 87.
She was preceded iin death by her parents; her husband and two brothers: Herbert and Herold.
Left to cherish her memory are her step-son, Darwin Anderson and his wife, Ouida Ann of Albuquerque, NM; her step-daughter, Carolyn June Brown and her husband, Richard of Tehachapi, CA; six step-grandchildren: Darryl D. Anderson, Terry D. Trippe, Teresa D. Anderson, Darren D. Anderson, Carri Susan Angelini and Lorri Lynn Bishop; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
